Everything wrong with music right now in one picture!

Smashing Pumpkins and Janes Addiction blew up the Capitol One Center in DC on Tuesday, October 18, 2022. But I noticed something that disturbed the shit out of me. In the far corners of the stage there were these well lit guitar prep areas manned by wanna-be rock stars charged with wiping down and tune-checking the artists guitars. I could not help but think “union worker”. With artist starting to speak out on how the industry is really starting to kill the art I noticed this pro-plucker/polisher I said “there ya go”. He’s probably not the issue but just a symptom of what is wrong with the music industry right now.
I’m not being critical of this particular dude! I’m sure he is a skilled hand that keeps the gear in check. I do have issue with the blatant “look at me” positioning and constant smirks and nods to the talent on stage. I do have issue with his job being deemed so important he warrents a lit spot on stage with the performers. What got him and those like him on to where he is on stage with the Smashing Pumpkins during a massive show? In thinking this through my head hurts. I’m thinking of the brave artists who have spoken out how the promotors, vendors, support crews, Covid, etc. are making it so difficult to tour while the fan base is desperate to see their favorite acts.
How the hell did we get here? How will it shake out? Comments welcome!
