It’s hard to even think about this band without smiling.  It’s been many years since they performed as a band but if you’re in the VA Beach area you can sometimes see the lead singer and guitarist (now husband, wife and parents) play acoustic sets every once and awhile.  They just keep sounding better!

I stumbled on Lucky Town when the played with a band I was obsessed with in the early 2000s.  I was traveling for work and Gingham Shmuz was playing nearby so I decided to stop in and say hi and listen for a bit.  There I heard Courtney and the rest of Lucky Town.  I stayed for the entire show and even helped the bands break down their gear at the end of the night.

I found out Lucky Town would be playing closer to home that weekend and my plans were set.  I’ve probably seen them 5-6 times live since first hearing them and all of their albums are still in rotation and in my playlists after all these years.  While I was dealing with some tough personal demons and needed some help pushing forward the song Better became my anthem.  Anyway- about the band…

Lucky Town sounds incredibly clean.  For years I tried to better describe what I mean but there is simply no better word(s) to describe them.  Their sound live or recorded just feels perfect.  Vocals are tight and her range and control are phenomenal.  The guitar, bass and drums are perfectly leveled and well “clean”!  It all comes together so we’ll.

Fortunate Lucky Towns music is still available through most streaming services (Spotify and Apple Music).  I have all of their CDs.  If you’re checking them out for the 1st time I recommend starting with Mistake, Fear, and Dirty Shoes, Better, and Inspiration.

I’ve always thought the song Name from the No Luxury EP would make a killer mashup with the Ting Tings That’s Not my Name.  I don’t have the mixing or mashing equipment/skills to make it happen.
