The Pretty Reckless
Let’s get this out of the way- yes the lead singer of The Pretty Reckless is “Cindy Lou Who” from the live action Grinch movie with Jim Carry. She is also a former Gossip Girl. She’s all gown up now and you won’t believe the voice that comes from this little woman.
The Pretty Reckless is a 4 piece band fronted by Taylor Momsen. Her voice does not match her look and I still can’t get enough of it. The band formed in 2009 and has been putting out music and gaining accolades since. They tour frequently but I’ve missed every opportunity to catch them live. I’ve heard they put on a great show and nothing is watered down.
While the band had great accolades in the industry they’ve not caught on the way they deserve. To support the latest tour they had a strong presence on TikTok and Instagram but I think they need more exposure to the tough to reach gen-x crew. As the self-appointed ambassador from gen-x I can say this our out kind of music. More of us just need to hear it!
Absolution on the Going to Hell album is my go to song when I’m letting someone hear them for the first time. It features acoustic, electric, ballad and pure power rock stylings all in one tune. If you don’t start tapping a toe or breaking into a dance rage your ears are broken!
Other recommended intro songs are: Make me Wanna Die, Take Me Down, Death By Rock and Roll and My Bones. Beyond that start listening to entire albums. The one thing I noticed about The Pretty Reckless albums is the flow of the tracks. Often lost in the digital music age is track to track flow and way an album takes you on a journey- sometimes telling a story, building emotion or simply the way the artist wanted you to hear it. Start with the 1st track and listen to the rest in order.
